"It's Cozy Time!"

(That's the response to the question "Hey, kids, WHAT TIME IS IT?")

Monkpug1_1Two more tea cozies that I'll have available at the RISD Alumni Holiday Art Sale this Saturday.

Both are made from recycled, felted wool sweaters; wool felt; embroidery floss; and both are lined with a felted wool blankie.

Sock Monkey has wool yarn for his fez's tassle & inner ears and has buttons for his eyes & nostrils. Pug has felted wool balls adorning his collar.

Monkeyteaegg_2Flanking the Sock Monkey Tea Cozy are two mini monkey egg cozies, for which I used two felted ragg wool mittens. I had worn these mittens 'til, *gasp*, holes had formed, and hole-y mittens just don't cut it when you're shoveling the driveway. Which I had to do today, btw, for the first snowfall of der season! (It's the hap, happiest time of the year...)
Click on the images to see them larger in a pop-up window.

Monkclose_2Here's a close-up of the fez, wherein you can see the couching technique I employed to stitch down the tassle.

I like seeing the "sweateriness" of the sweater remaining after the felting process, so it's nice to find sweaters with texture. Whether that texture is achieved via knitting (cables, ribbing, etc.), or via a yarn that has flecks of lotza colors, it makes for a more interesting final product.

It's fun to let the sweater "dictate" what the creature will be.

The cozies are too cool!

Goodness! I *love* the sock monkey cozies. The two little white teeth give him so much character...great fez, too.

The sock monkey cozies are clever - though there is something about that phrase, "monkey egg cozy," that keeps bringing a smirk to my face...

Are there no matching dog egg cozies? (a phrase, which for some other unknown reason, doesn't strike me nearly as funny as 'monkey egg' does).

OMG these are all FABULOUS! I really love the sock monkey and his little buddies.

these tea cozies are wonderful! I am so sorry I won't be able to attend the RISD sale since I'll be busy doing my own selling :-) O well, hope it goes really well- I'm sure these guys will liven up the place!

these are the coolest things ever! nice work

LOVING the sock monkey!!!
