I got a book with a provocative title a number of years ago and recently I decided to turn it into a pseudo traveler's notebook, with different inserts for different aspects of meal-making. This will mean pitching a whole bunch of loose-meat recipes that I've messily kept in both a folder and a stupid kitty tin.
Added dill pickle duct tape to spine, along with some polka-dotted ribbon. Carrot charms are a pair of earrings repurposed. Poop emoji sticker and poop key chain (the eyes pop out when you squeeze him) add to the "gas" motif.
Inside cover of book was re-papered using some ancient dollhouse wallpaper I've had for 40-odd years; more dill pickle duct tape at spine. Dill greeting card gets called into service as a "dashboard" of sorts...
Inside cover of dill pickle greeting card gets a beer bottle postcard addition with hamburger/french fry washi tape. (Wouldn't that be delicious right now?) Beer bottles are by Studio Ink. First notebook insert is for Main Dishes. The paper I used to cover this book (both polka dots) AND the woman holding the casserole dish are from FLOW magazine, a mag for paper lovers. I count myself among their rank. (Take THAT, trees!)
Here's a sample page from the Main Dishes insert. Lentils shouldn't cause any GAS. Nope. Nosireebob.
Here's the BACK of the Main Dishes insert and the inside back cover of the dill pickle greeting card. I covered that with dill pickle duct tape and created a little pocket to hold washi tape that I had that looked vaguely food-related.
Back of dill greeting card, NICE BUNS! is another Studio Ink (Hallmark) postcard. I've turned it and another postcard into ANOTHER dashboard. Hold your pants on, I'm gettin' to it!
Back side of NICE BUNS is a good sport for sticky notes to which I've added stickers. The COOKING FROM SCRATCH insert holds party food recipes and side dishes. The artwork also came in the FLOW magazine.
Inside of SCRATCH booklet, another bunch of sticky notes, with sticker embellishments. I figure the BLACK would be cute as a chalkboard menu type of thing. Whether or not I'll actually DO this is questionable...
Back of SCRATCH booklet, with the other side of the NICE BUNS dashboard (told we'd get 'round to it). I like how the black and white talk bubble looks with the black and white booklet.
The back of DAMN! postcard is a place for Target page flags. Their colors/patterns worked well with the theme I was creating. I added a couple of emojis. A skull if you're starving yourself; a pig if you're being one. Next insert is for COOKIES. Regular ol' cookies and Christmas cookies. Do I bake enough cookies to warrant giving them their own booklet? Well... admittedly NO, but I DO have enough recipes. The next booklet was made from a pack of 3 folders for a buck, found in the Target Dollar Spot. This granny holding a plate of cookies was in the FLOW magazine, so I glued her on. I showed this to my 87-year-old father and he said, "Gramma Grunt", which dovetailed neatly into my gas/poop theme, so I added alpha stickers to spell out GRUNT.
This next accessory is a folder, made from one of the 3 Target folders. The thermos came from FLOW mag.
Inside flap of folder, adorned with a "vintage" advertising sticker. Next book is for DESSERTS (different from cookies!), made from the 3rd of the three Target folders. The teacup (because it's CIVILIZED to have TEA with YOUR DESSERT, you SAVAGES) is a sticker from the FLOW mag again.
Other side of folder with another seed packet sticker.
Well that's another bookdori mostly done -- I'll of course continue to copy recipes into it and add images and stickers and whatever. Fun!
Thanks for lookin' at my cook-bookin'!
