My finger puppets Ping & Pong were once again called into active duty to illuminate this week's word, as were the miniature glue bottles I'd made a while back. That's the great thing about having a ton of props -- you can just dig 'em up and use 'em at a moment's notice!

When they agreed to become state witnesses, Fabriczio, Vinny and Sal thought they'd be given new identities and be moved to some exotic locale. But no: they stayed in Providence and just got umbrellas.

My French maid finger puppet, Toots Suite, volunteered to help illustrate this week's word. But before she could be photographed, she demanded a makeover which included a hairdo adjustment, new eyeballs, a cheek enhancement and rhinoplasty.
The great thing about performing major cosmetic surgery on puppets is that there's no downtime while waiting for bruising and swelling to subside.
This week's word on Illustration Friday gave me a LOT to work with! So, without further cockadoodle-ado, here's the story of Gussie Perdue and Squeeter McGee, 2 of the finger puppets I've made, which I'm calling, "Why Did the Chicken Cross the Country?"
Gussie Perdue wants to break out of her humdrumstick life she lives on the farm with her sisters. She decides to drive cross country, but needs someone to share the driving and the travel expenses, so she posts a RIDE SHARE WANTED on Eggslist. In the ad, she notes her preferences re: someone familiar with cars and with driving, because, while she's CROSSED a few roads in her day, she's really quite new to DRIVING down them.
Squeeter McGee is simian-arly eager to see what's Out There, so the Eggslist ad comes as a godsend. BONUS: he fills the requirements to a 'T' -- he's MORE than familiar with driving small cars in parades. He answers the ad; it's a 'go'!
Gussie is close with all her sisters, and will miss them terribly. This sister is Ethel.
Best to get all issues out in the open before starting the big trip.

This week's word just happens to dovetail neatly with a personal project, "Dog Days", that I've been working on -- so here's the star of our show, Sirius, who's responsible for the Dog Days of summer!
(Funny side note -- one dictionary says this about Sirius: "It is a binary star with A DIM COMPANION, WHICH IS A WHITE DWARF." Oh YES -- a sidekick and some backstory!)
A glass star made by a friend, hanging over a collection of flea market globes, became the setting for this shot. My finger puppet, Dogmatic, curious about who's been shining in his window all summer, goes to the ends of the earth(s) to find the source. Curiosity may kill the Cat, but for the Dog, it only increases his wealth & depth of knowledge.

Doing the research for this word was 2 much fun, and it was worthwhile for me for another reason: now I know what Ping & Pong's last name is. It's CHIN... because... double... chin. YAY!!
Quick made the bed covers 2day (and pillows, 2, if you must know, although they got cropped, poor things), made the crackers last Saturday, and I've shown the snack foods earlier. First time I've tried putting all the 2-date characters from The Freaky Fingers Side Show in2 one photograph!!
